NEW ARTIST - ADAM HIGTON



graduated with BA hons Fine Art from UWE, bristol 2008, since then, he has started his own mystical woodland saga which combines drawing, video, costumes, music, textiles and performances pieces (mainly focusing on drawing...) titled 'Yule Bringer'. Adam also recently formed the Artist Book Collection, with the intention of hosting one night events, in small local environments (village halls, libraries, bookshops etc...) exhibiting a special collection of limited edition artists books from artists/illustrators and musicians.

In December 2008 he had his first solo exhibition at an artist run space in Stockholm, Sweden. Adam's 2nd solo show will open at in September, and following on from this will be a 16 page Christmas special for the artist book project, published by

Adam's work is based around themes of merriment and mysticism, a love of drawing and the works are mainly inspired from his own personal spiritual experiences, which are adapted, changed and re-told through the creation of woodland characters. Adam's interested in animistic folk religions (mainly pagan and japanese shinto... but he's also keen on Norse mythology and icelandic saga's... like Theodor Kittelsen, Ladislaw Starewicz, Aubrey Beardsley, Tove Jansson etc. He enjoy's films which combine cartoon animation and real action, in particular Maria Mirabella & Bedknobs and Broomsticks... and drawing whilst listening 60s and 70s folk, prog and rock music...
